peonies!!!

IMG_20170527_192313978I like to keep flowers on my desk at work. I buy them when I go to get groceries. Today, HEB had maroon peonies. Never let it be said that an Aggie turned down something in maroon. I have them in a galvanized bucket with some white roses. I’m afraid they won’t be making it to work. I am enjoying them too much here. I’ll have to go get the hot pink ones to take in to the office.~~TSG

and then there was yum

A huge thank you to Mod Pizza! Today, for Teacher Appreciation Day, they gave a free pizza or salad to any educator who showed their badge. There is a Mod Pizza less than a quarter mile from the college I work at. I went with three colleagues at around 1:15 this afternoon. Even though I am sure the staff had been extremely busy since the moment they opened (nothing runs through a college faster than the news of free food), the staff was cheerful and helpful. The young lady who started my pizza even had some suggestions as to what was good. She also called one of my colleagues, who has been there more than the once I have before, by name. I had BBQ sauce, chicken, bacon, broccoli, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese with extra BBQ sauce drizzled over the top. It was delightful! Thank you! Thank you! Mod Pizza is the best!~~TSG

today’s good feeling

I am an advisor for a college. Many of our students have small children who come along when mom or dad needs to talk about classes. I keep two lower shelves full of toys that I get cheaply ($2 or less) for the children to play with so their parents don’t feel like they have to hurry. Today a boy 3-4 and a girl 1-2 came in with their mother. The reason I don’t pay much for the toys is that I like to give them to the children as a gift when they leave. Right now, I have some Fisher Price Rescue Heroes. When I told the boy he could have one for helping me by playing nicely while Mom and I talked about school, he chose the Spider Man. I turned around just in time to see him give Spidey a very sweet little kiss. When I have bad days at work as everyone does, I will think of that moment and that beautiful child. Have a great weekend!~~TSG

back to work

Today, the full-time workers returned to the college from winter break. We were packed. I found a penny on the floor, though.~~TSG

note to self:

People who take two days off from work for “goofing-off purposes” should first make sure the college-aged children have transport.

Survival Mode

There are just two days left of “peak registration” before the term starts on Monday. This is a great thing; we are all stumbling about with a glazed look in our eyes. Yesterday, I was trying to help a student re-register for some classes that had dropped and he was very frustrated with me. He was trying to tell me about a change in the numbering of the courses, but I just could not get it. He said, “You have to listen sometimes!” I was listening, but my brain was not receiving. The message finally took root and the student was successfully enrolled. If we don’t get some rest soon, we are all going to be zombies. C’mon Sunday! TSG

a prayer is answered

RTA called yesterday to tell me some very exciting news. As I mentioned a few posts ago, he and AVB are starting a company together and also want to help other veterans. Last week, AVB met with a potential investor to show him the business plan and talk about the non-profit they want to start. This gentleman was very impressed and is going to invest a large amount to help RTA and AVB get started. I am so happy! I hope their business will really take off so that they can help many people.

Thank you, God!

truth in advertising

If I keep acting like I did today, I am going to be forced to dye my hair blond as a warning to others.

For instance, I asked a co-worker, “How are you doing this morning?”. She replied, “Good, don’t you remember our discussion about the radio station?”. Well, no, I apparently didn’t recall any of the earlier events of the day.

I certainly hope FMP doesn’t react to the new color of my hair like he did to the new length.

Summer

This week, we began the summer work schedule at the college. This means no late days for the duration. We work nine hours Monday-Thursday and then take Friday off. Each of the full-time workers takes a Friday/Saturday and works while everyone else is off. Then, the following week, the one who worked takes Thursday off as well. Thus, the books are balanced and everyone is happy. We love summer!

Hiho! Hiho! It’s back to work I go!

IRP’s PICC (permanent IV line) is scheduled to come out today and she is supposed to come home. That would be so lovely. We really miss her around her. Even the pets are pouting. Tomorrow will have been three weeks since the surgery and she is doing things by herself quite well. It will be good for her to come home to continue healing.

This glitch has caused IRP to back up her plans a bit, so we are shooting for Fall 2013 as her return to college. At this point, IRP feels that even studying math would be preferable to what she is doing. Considering our family’s general hatred of math, this is a large concession.

Since FMP will be available today for IRP, I am going back to work. The people there have been so kind and accommodating, but it is time to resume my tasks.
